The cheapest fruits and vegetables of Santiago

Where do you think in Santiago de Chile 20 % of all transactions take place ?
Exactly, its the authentic "La Vega Central". The place is famous for its great variety and low prices, but since a while it has gotten interesting competition. If you cross the "General Borgoño Avenue" and go through the "La Vega Chica" you will arrive to a new building which is better known as "Mercado Tirso de Molina".
One meets many immigrants from Peru, Colombia and Ecuador selling products of their countries to really convenient prices. You will find typical food, exotic fruits, sauces in all colors, and also goods of daily use like milk, queese, bread, etc. On the second and top floor are many small restaurants offering homemade food to affordable prices and people selling clothes.
The closest subway stations are "Patronato" and "Puente Cal y Canto" of the yellow line N°2, from where you need more or less 10 minutes to get there. The place is very clean and safe, anyway, we recommend going during the day and avoid the darkness.
